Croatia is the Top Tourist Destination in Europe

Croatia has emerged as Europe’s top tourism destination gaining the most mentions for both excitement and value for money in a recent survey .

Croatia was followed by the Czech Republic (15 percent) and Iceland (13 percent) in the ranking of most exciting place for tourists, according to the Sofia News Agency.

Croatia has come out on top because it is perceived as European without suffering the pitfalls of EU membership, according to Tom Jenkins, Executive Director of ETOA. He explained that as not being subject to EU VAT laws, Croatia enjoys a 19% price break compared with it close competitors - Greece and Italy .

Paris is the runaway winner, when it comes to romance and France also wins with the product of family entertainment, as Euro Disney is rated the top destination for families with children.

Italy is by far the best for art lovers and London is rated best for sightseeing, shopping and partying yet the UK is considered to be worst value.

Tom Jenkins, said, "The results are disappointing. Not only is the UK expensive, but also most of our visitors will think of prices in terms of how many US dollars they are spending, so the strong pound just compounds the situation."

As best tourist attractions were favoured the Eiffel Tower (50%) followed by the London Eye (29%) and the Coliseum (21%). A spokesman for VisitBritain, which promotes the UK abroad, said, "There is a perception that the UK can be expensive and that is something we have to overcome. But another survey of 5,000 people in the US, by the Travel Industry Association of America, revealed that Americans decide where to go before considering the cost. They go somewhere they feel safe and, generally, they feel safe in the UK."
