Getting a bargain holiday abroad is great and it is encourageing people to travel abroad more.
A result of people holidaying abroad so much is that holidaymakers no longer have an awareness or interest in the locations of the top UK holiday destinations .
Egg who were responsible for the study found that two thirds of Britons had no idea where the Cotswolds, the New Forest, the Peak District or Lake District are. 63 per cent of British holidaymakers choose to go abroad rather than stay in the UK. Prices was the main reason given for going away.
Further research also shows a 5.4 per cent rise in the cost of holidaying in the UK compared to a 1.6 per cent drop in the cost of trips abroad. There is no indication that this trend is about to change.
Alison Wright of Egg, said, "Going on a summer holiday is one of the biggest annual financial commitments for most households, so it is no surprise that we are increasingly trying to find ways to budget and bring the cost down.
"With the emergence of low cost airlines and the comparatively cheap prices whilst abroad, it is no wonder many consumers are seeking foreign shores, where they can make their holiday spending money go much further."
