Andorra a shoppers paradise

Wed, 03 May 2006

For years travellers have flocked to big cities worldwide to spend their hard earned cash on a shopping spree.

The bigest attraction, New York offers British holidaymakers is a great range of designer goods at great prices.

However there is a new haven for those who love to spend spend spend and the great thing is that you don’t have to fly half way across the world to get there. Andorra has been described as a haven for shopaholics.

Andorra is a small principality, landlocked between Spain and France. Tourists will find bargains galore from perfumes at cheap prices, jewellery, clothes and electronics. The reason why things are cheaper here than other parts of Europe is because Andorra has a duty free status.

Each year Andorra attracts nine million visitors, a fact confirmed by a survey in 2004 by the Spanish Consumers’ Association. The survey involved choosing 350 products from 3,000 shops in 55 cities across 11 countries in western Europe. The survey concluded that Andorra offered by far the best value for a shopper especially for video and audio equipment.

Despite being a small principality, Andorra has a lot to boast about. There are 2,000 shops and boutiques to choose from, many being located in Andorra la Vella, Escaldes-Engordany and Pas de la Casa.

If holidaymakers are looking for a more exciting tax free shopping experience, the wise shopper can try their hand at bartering to get a better price.

A word of warning for those used to shopping in large department stores, the shops in Andorra are small but many.

Once you have enjoyed the shops you can always go skiing afterwards.
