Qatar Airways held a press conference at the World Travel Market in London yesterday, where the company announced seven new routes to be included as of 2007.
Joining the airlines destinations would be flights to New York, Lagos, Dar Es Salaam, Bali, Ho Chi Minh City and two European cities not named by the airline .
Akbar al Baker, said on behalf of the company, that Nigerias commercial centre Lagos would join Qatar Airways network on January 3, followed six days later by Dar Es Salaam, the Tanzanian capital.
Qatar Airways will begin flying to the tropical island of Bali from March 2007, and the airline will start to operate daily flights to New York from the summer of 2007.
Al Baker told journalists at the conference that the year 2007 would be a milestone year for Qatar Airways.
"Back in 1994, Qatar Airways launched operations with just a handful of regional routes with a handful of aircrafts. The airline was relaunched in 1997 and almost 10 years on, Qatar Airways now flies an international network covering some 70 destinations across Europe, Middle East, Africa, the subcontinent and Far East," he said.
Akbar al Baker continued by saying, "Our fleet has grown sharply to 51 aircraft and we have simply gone from strength to strength carrying more than six million passengers a year representing an annual growth averaging 35 per cent. We are well on target to more than double our fleet size to 110 aircraft by 2015. As we enter 2007 to celebrate 10 years of flying, we are pleased to announce seven more destinations."
Qatar Airways are also set to launch their brand new Premium Terminal, which is dedicated to first and business class passengers. The terminal is set to open at the Doha International Airport, and at a cost of $90 million, will feature a spa, jacuzzi, fine dining restaurants, and an exclusive check in for premium passengers flying with the airline .
