Ryanair, the popular low-cost airline, is set to introduce a £2 surcharge for checking-in at airports .
The controversial move by the budget airline intends to increase the number of customers who check-in online .
The companys website will provide passengers, carrying just hand luggage, the chance to check in free of charge, as well as being given priority boarding, although travellers looking to fly with more than just basic luggage will have to pay the new £2 charge applicable for all Holidaymakers checking in at airports .
Peter Sherrard, a spokesman for Ryanair, commented: "Ryanairs web check-in and priority boarding service has proven very popular among passengers by freeing them from check-in queues and departure gate queues ."
"However, clearly charging for this service has acted as a disincentive. We expect that providing this service free of charge) with Ryanairs generous hand baggage allowance of 10 kilos) will significantly increase usage," he added.
