Rise In Adventure Holidays By Mature Travellers

Tue, 27 Feb 2007

Around 20 per cent of all travellers above the age of 50 have have found their couragous side by trying taking part in adventure holiday activities, such as bungee jumping, swimming with sharks, and abseiling, on recent holidays .

New research from the Foreign Office (FCO) had revealed a rise in adventurous holiday packages for over 50s, with almost seven in ten mature travellers now embarking on holidays which include a wide range of popular and risky activities.

However, the Foreign Office also found that there has been a strong rise in over-50s needing consular assistance when abroad, and is advising mature holidaymakers to be better prepared for adventure holiday activities .

Travel experts Lonely Planet have launched a new downloadable leaflet which will help advise older travellers on how to plan their holiday, make better preparations, and avoid unpleasant experiences.

With an alarming rise in holidaymakers forgeting to take out holiday cover, it comes as no surprise that The Foreign Office’s key advice to over 50s is to remember to have travel insurance .

Other advice includes, checking medical requirements for any activities that you may to try, make photocopies of important documents such as passports and driving licences, and carry out thourough research on the destination before leaving.

Information regarding travel issues can be accessed on the Foreign Office’s website: www.fco.gov.uk
