British holidaymakers have a tendency to be the biggest spenders on holidays than any of their European counterparts, as well as being more likely to plan a trip abroad, according to new research.
The study conducted by Europ Assistance shows that while 47 per cent of the British public say they are planning to go on more than one holiday this year, only 23 per cent of other Europeans are planning on doing the same in 2007.
Other statistics show that Brits will spend £1,744 on average when it comes to booking their holiday, which puts them top of the list of all the European nations.
Italians were the next biggest spenders, with an average of £1,373 spent on booking a break, while tourists from France made up the top three, with an average spend of £1,357.
Charles Walckenaer, managing director of Europ Assistance for the UK and Ireland, commented: "The survey reinforces the British public's love of holidaying and how they not only have the highest budget for holidaying but they also travel more than their European neighbours."
It was also revealed that just over half of all British holidaymakers use the internet when booking their holiday .
The news follows recent research from Opodo that highlighted how approximately 25 per cent of all UK tourists admitted to being influenced by movies and celebrities when choosing the perfect holiday destination .
