Airbus, one of the leading aircraft manufacturers, has completed the implementation of its KDS-powered travel reservation system, known as u.go, throughout the organisation.
The system, currently live in Spain, France, Germany and the UK, manages an average of 4,000 bookings per week for over 60,000 employees and subcontractors, which makes it the busiest-ever application of KDSs on-demand travel technology .
Airbus chose KDS because of its level of technology that includes the ability to integrate the management of all European air and rail travel . This includes Airbuss own charter flights between major European centres and low cost providers. Another reason it was chosen was due to the companys need for a system that was able to deliver financial savings, improved policy compliance, and be tailored to the individual requirements of all its European locations.
Launched back in October 2005, u.go has helped significantly reduce average ticket prices at Airbus. By highlighting best buy travel options and potential missed savings, the system encourages users to make the optimum travel choice. Within just six months Airbus was able to fully recoup its investment in u.go due to its ticket price savings and increased efficiencies.
The success of u.go reflects the high adoption rates achieved across the organisation. Airbus originally targeted 60 per cent adoption rates across all travel, but hit 70 per cent within the first six months. Last month Airbus announced user adoption had reached 80 per cent due to the emphasis that the company has placed on internal communications throughout the change process.
Travel technology manager at Airbus, James Westgarth said, "u.go has proved a great success for Airbus and, by providing the ideal technology platform, KDS has played an important part in this. Together, we have been able to deliver a system that gives a far more rational and efficient basis to our travel and has fully surpassed our initial goals."
"We are now targeting 90 percent user adoption across all travel and anticipate further important savings in the coming years."
