British travel firm Thomas Cook is set to partner BAA’s Terminal 5 at Heathrow Airport, which will see the company operate nine bureaux de change outlets in the state-of-art terminal.
In 12 months time the start of operations at Terminal5 will mark the first step of a strategic marketing partnership between the airport brand and travel operator that will use a variety of channels to reach customers before and after flight booking .
The two firms will create links between their company websites, which will inform customers, who have already booked a flight, about available facilities at the airport such as food &drink, retail, and accommodation .
Colin Hargrave, managing director at UK Airport Retail, said: "This is a smart partnership focusing on fulfilling customer needs at every stage of their journey . It fuses together the travel and airport experience, making for a seamless customer journey from the point of booking right through to boarding the flight ."
Thomas Cook’s marketing director, Simon Carter, added: "The partnership is a significant move for Thomas Cook. It’s an honour to be part of Terminal 5, especially as this marks the first stage in our return to airport foreign exchange ."
"Our goal is to be there for our customers at every step of their journey, from the moment they book, at the airport, then onto the flight and holiday experience."
The beginning of the year saw the merger of Thomas Cook and MyTravel, the UK’s leading online travel service. The new enlarged group has sales figures estimated at around €12billion (£8 billion), which will make it one of world's leading travel companies .
