An increasing number of Brits are opting to set sail on a cruise as theyre preferred holiday choice, causing a high level of competition in the cruise market, new reports have revealed.
Although traditional cruises are still very popular, UK holidaymakers especially those with families are increasingly choosing less traditional cruises, according to holiday operator Cruisedirect.co.uk .
A spokesperson for the company commented: "Cruises have been really taking off in the last couple of years. They are popular with families, couples and groups of friends ."
"There are a range of different cruises available now, so you are not just restricted to what used to be known as traditional cruises anymore."
He added: "Cruise companies are bringing out more and more cruise ships each year and there is so much competition because everyone is trying to make their cruise ships the best in the market ."
The cruise operator said that the increase in choice means that British travel agents are increasingly providing holidaymakers specific cruise options to meet their needs, such as in-cabin entertainment, increased cabin size or better facilities.
Over one million Brits went on a cruise during 2005 - more than any other European nationality - according to figures released back in February by the European Cruise Council .
