Very few Brits are willing to change their future holiday plans due to environmental concerns, a new survey by Travelsupermarket.com has revealed.
According to online travel portal, only 16 per cent of Brits plan to make adjustments to their travel behaviour, despite being aware of the impact of flying - with more than half stating they believed international flights were damaging the environment .
The survey shows that as many as 93 per cent of Brits admitted they have never taken green issues into account when deciding on the destination of their holiday .
Meanwhile, nearly 40 per cent of those surveyed stated they do not and will not opt for domestic breaks in an effort to reduce the environmental impact of holidays, with many citing the high costs of local getaways as the main barrier preventing them from doing so.
Bob Atkinson, a travel expert from Travelsupermarket, said: "It's unrealistic to expect people to give up foreign holidays altogether, but it's alarming how little people are willing to adapt."
"If it was made easier for consumers to make more informed decisions about greener flight and holiday options or if UK breaks were made more affordable, people might start to think about the planet before they book," he added.
