The UKs outbound tourism industry is confident that travellers will continue to book and fly to international destinations in 2008, according to a new survey .
The research by travel website Travelmole and public relations company BGB revealed that 51 per cent of outbound tour operators reported modest growth in turnover in 2007 and 22 per cent said they enjoyed strong increases.
The confidence in further business growth for next year was highlighted by some 58 per cent of respondents who predicted further modest increases in 2008, while 27 per cent were confident they would see strong growth.
Nearly half (45 per cent) of outbound tour companies stated long-haul destinations were customers main preference for 2007, while 34 per cent said short-haul trips were their best earners.
The survey also found that although roughly two-thirds (64 per cent) of domestic tour operators saw modest corporate growth this year, and only four per cent enjoyed strong increases, these companies were the most bullish for 2008, with 78 per cent predicting modest profit growth and 11 per cent predicting strong increases in turnover .
