Christmas is slowly being considered as 'the new summer' due to a significant rise in the popularity of winter breaks amongst British holidaymakers, a new survey has revealed.
Around 75 per cent of Brits are considering taking a holiday abroad over the up-and-coming festive period, according to a new poll carried out by travel search engine Kayak.co.uk.
The increase in demand for Xmas breaks follows a wet and miserable summer for Brits, which led to 43 per cent of the people polled saying that the weather was the main factor in making them want to take travel abroad over the Christmas period.
Just under two thirds of respondents (65 per cent) said a sunny beach holiday would be their ideal getaway, with 46 per cent stating the Caribbean as the destination of their choice.
"The great British summer has been a wash out this year, so who can blame us sun-starved Brits for wanting to escape to sunnier shores," commented Annie Wilson, business development director of Kayak.co.uk.
"Christmas is traditionally a time for staying at home, but sometimes you just need to break with tradition and let someone else cook and clean while you catch some much-needed rays," she added.
However, the survey showed that an affection for seasonal traditions by the British public remains, with 41 per cent of people saying they would not like the idea of being away from their family at Christmas and 16 per cent claiming that they could not go without receiving presents .
