Brits are willing to pay extra for long-haul flights in order to enjoy a more comfortable trip, travel experts have revealed.
The Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) highlighted that "there is a lot to be said" for having a comfortable flight, even though an increasing number of UK holidaymakers are looking to take advantage of cheap long-haul flight options.
The travel organisation made the observation as AirAsia X, the Malaysia-based budget airline, announced its new long-haul flight routes to destinations worldwide.
A spokesperson for ABTA commented: "There is a lot to be said for not feeling cramped and desperately uncomfortable when you are in a plane for ten hours and a lot of travellers feel that they would pay that little bit extra."
She added that there demand for short breaks to long-haul destinations is significantly increasing, with many tourists flying to destinations such as Las Vegas and Cairo for long weekends, or even visiting New York for quick shopping trips .
The extra demand is even more of a surprise given the recent emphasis placed on responsible tourism and eco-friendly travel by the UK Government, she noted.
A recent survey carried out by Hyder Consulting showed that over 50 per cent of holidaymakers polled would not consider swapping their foreign holiday for a more eco-friendly break in the UK .
