Morocco is set to be transformed into a major global holiday destination for Europeans over the next three to four years, according to an investment expert.
Figures released by the Moroccan tourism department show that visitor numbers increased last year by 12 per cent from 2005, highlighting how the north African country is fast becoming one of the world's emerging tourist locations.
A representative of property firm Avatar Portfolio claims that planners in Morocco are "pulling out all the stops" in order to achieve significant progress in terms of infrastructure and amenities.
"You notice that airports are being improved, motorways are being put in; there are a lot of things that are happening to put this country in a position, and in the next three or four years it will be a serious holiday destination for anyone in Europe," commented the firms spokesman.
He added that European holidaymakers looking for getaways in Morocco is not a particularly new phenomenon, as the country has been attracting travellers from Europe for some time.
"The thing about Morocco is that it does have a European influence. The Spanish and the French have been holidaying there for many years and that is apparent when you go there," he explained.
