UK holidaymakers could face being taxed on short-haul flights within the UK under a Conservative government, a new report has revealed.
A 'Quality of Life' report from the Tories is expected to recommend that short-haul domestic flights are taxed as part of a package of green initiatives, according to the Guardian.
The opposition party is reported to have abandoned plans to tax air passengers on flights exceeding a fixed number of air miles per year, but a policy review group led by millionaire ecologist Zac Goldsmith is expected to put forth the proposals this week.
Speaking to the Guardian, Mr Goldmsith said: "You cannot be serious about climate change or quality of life issues unless you address the very, very difficult issues in relation to short-haul flights ."
The news follows the Conservative revelation that the recently doubled Air Passenger Duty which caused travel industry uproar is not directly liked to carbon emissions and has not encouraged airlines to be more fuel efficient.
In addition, the Quality of Life report package also includes a doubling of landfill tax for businesses and mandatory best practice policies for supermarket waste disposal.
