The pounds continued dip against the strong euro is driving a boom in the domestic travel market, an industry expert has claimed.
Richard Carrick, chief executive of tour operator Hoseasons, said its recent sales figures revealed a considerable increase in holiday bookings for the UK .
The self-catering specialist reported a 30 per cent increase in like-for-like UK holiday bookings on figures for the same period in 2007 and said short breaks have become travellers most popular option.
Demand for last minute bookings is also strong, with more than 40 per cent of bookings being made less six weeks before departure, while online sales have seen the largest increase and now account for almost half the companys business .
Carrick said: "Our recent booking figures support how attractive the UK holiday market has become to native holidaymakers, both in terms of value for money and diversity of accommodation ."
"Standards have been significantly enhanced and the variety of holidays on offer is vast. Whats more, the trend in short breaks reflect a growing desire among holidaymakers to take UK holidays as a green, hassle-free alternative to flying overseas."
"We expect to see an even larger increase in sales over the coming months as people look to find great value, quality accommodation at home," he added.
