UK holidaymakers have been warned to avoid searching for last-minute holiday bargains this summer.
Travel operator Thomas Cook said that despite its efforts to reduce capacity, with 10 per cent fewer holidays available in the UK for example, the number of unsold summer holidays for the group is 19 per cent lower compared to the same period last year.
"This should stand us in good stead in the latest market," a spokesperson for the firm said. "We are particularly encouraged by our much lower level of stock left to sell in short and long haul holidays ."
The firm said that its average selling prices for the coming season had risen by 2 per cent, helped by its tighter management of capacity.
Chief executive Manny Fontenla-Novoa said the groups trading for the recent winter holiday season was in line with company targets and added that it should meet expectations for the current financial year, as it moves the year-end to September.
