Punctuality at the ten major UK airports slightly improved in the final quarter of 2007, according to the latest figures from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
The CAA statistics revealed that the proportion of scheduled flights that took off within 15 minutes of their planned departure time increased by 1per cent between the fourth quarters of 2006 and 2007.
All airports monitored by the aviation body, including Gatwick airport and Edinburgh airport, saw an increase in flight punctuality, with the exception of Heathrow and London City .
The average delay experienced at the surveyed airports was found to have dropped by a mere 1 minute to 17 minutes at the end of 2007.
Flights into Leeds Bradford airport had the best on-time performance and the shortest average delay of the top 75 destinations from monitored airports at the end of 2007.
The Yorkshire hub had a punctuality rate of 84 per cent and an average delay of just eight minutes.
According to the figures, London City airport was the only hub to see an increase in its average delay time, up from 15 minutes in 2006 to 20 minutes last year.
Routes to Dubai, Rome, Lisbon, Istanbul and Los Angeles among the 75 most popular destinations each recorded a disappointing on-time rate of less than 55 per cent.
