Around 2 million Brits are expected to head off on holiday during the up-coming bank holiday weekend, according to an industry expert.
The Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) has predicted that just under 1 million people will fly abroad from London-based airports on early Friday and Saturday (22 and 23 August).
As expected the busiest hub will be Heathrow, with over 420,000 travellers expected to catch their flights from one of the airports five terminals.
A further 260,000 will fly from Gatwick, 160,000 will depart from Stansted and 80,000 from Luton, according to ABTA .
Manchester Airport will be the busiest regional airport with 160,000 Brits setting off on their mini-travels, followed by Birmingham International with 70,000.
ABTA President Justin Fleming commented: "The August bank holiday is our traditional goodbye to the summer and is always very busy."
"This year is no exception with large numbers escaping to guaranteed sunshine, sandy beaches and warm seas."
He added that city break hotspots such as New York, Amsterdam, Dublin and Rome will be heavily visited by British holidaymakers over the three-day period, along with other beach holiday favourites including the Balearic islands, mainland Spain and the Greek islands .
