South Africa Awarded For Adventure Tourism And Hospitality

South Africa’s tourism credentials have received a boost after the country scooped a couple of prestigious awards.

The African nation was named the Best International Adventure Tourism Destination of 2008 at the second annual Today's Traveller Diamond and Platinum Awards ceremony.

Ms Zolelwa Mukhozo, regional director of Asia and Australasia for South African tourism, collected the adventure destination prize on behalf of the country .

She explained that tourists in South Africa can experience a wide range of adventure activities, including the world's largest bungee jump and safari trips .

South Africa was also awarded for its hospitality. Ms Medha Sampat, acting country head for South African tourism, received the prize for the Best National Tourism Organization 2008.

According to the Lonely Planet travel guide, South Africa is an "exhilarating" nation, which boasts an unmistakable "abundance of energy and sense of progress" and adds that tourists "are returning to a remarkable land that has been off the trail for way too long".
