Moroccan City Becoming Popular Tourist Destination

Fri, 19 Dec 2008

The Moroccan city of Fes could become a future favourite with UK tourists, a travel expert has revealed.

Sharron Livingston, editor of TheTravelMagazine website, suggests that visitor numbers are likely to grow due to improved access to the historic city, with new flights now departing twice a week from Gatwick .

Tourists to Morocco’s fourth-largest city can experience the country’s "religious, cultural and culinary capital", with its thousands of walled alleyways that are "bustling" with markets and trading, she adds.

Morocco experienced a 14 per cent year-on-year increase in foreign arrivals during the first 11 months of 2007, according to the Business Monitor International 2008 Tourism Report.

It revealed that a total of 6.72 million tourists travelled to Morocco in that period, with the largest concentration arriving from France, followed by Spain, Belgium and the UK.
