Travellers looking to explore Europe are increasingly taking to rail travel - also known as InterRailing - an industry expert has revealed.
Student Travel specialists, STA Travel, claim that rail travel offers passengers crossing the continent "totally flexible green travel".
"Travelling by rail allows you to enjoy the freedom of totally flexible green travel around up to 30 countries in Europe," a spokesperson for STA Travel said.
"With frequent, reliable, comfortable services straight to the heart of your destination its a fantastic way to travel ."
She added that travellers can choose to focus on exploring one country from just £24, or opt for a global pass to experience a collection of European countries from £115."
Last month, STA Travel reported that the number of its gap customers in 2007 increased by 11 per cent from the previous year.
In addition, website Gapyear.com revealed that 230,000 18 to 24-year-old Brits embark on a big trip each year, along with 90,000 career gapers aged 25 to 35, and 220,000 people aged 55 to 65, making it an accelerating market .
