Airline giants Virgin Atlantic and British Airways are set to pay out up to £73.5 million to UK passengers entitled to compensation in the wake of the airlines' recent legal settlement.
The airlines have both agreed that any long-haul passenger who traveled with them between August 2004 and March 2006 is entitled to a refund on their fuel surcharge after US courts ruled that BA and Virgin had colluded over price fixing.
The carriers have confirmed that refunds for each passenger or flight will be worth £1 and £11.50 a third of the amount of the fuel charge levied per ticket .
Details of the settlement and the claims process can be found at Airpassengerrefund.co.uk - a website made specially to handle refund claims. UK passengers eligible for the refund can also claim by calling freephone 0800 043 0343.
Both the website and call centre have been active since last Friday.
British Airways and Virgin Atlantic have issued apologies to all passengers affected by the price-fixing activity and hope the settlement will bring an end to the incident.
