British families are increasingly looking to book holidays to Venice, Cairo and New York, according to new research .
The contrasting cities have been named as the top-three city break destinations for families by travel firm Kirker Holidays this week.
The group said there is now a real opportunity in the holiday market for families to plan some "fascinating, entertaining and also educational" city breaks .
Ted Wake, director of sales and marketing at Kirker Holidays, said that holiday destinations such as Venice market themselves very well towards family experiences.
"For most children, the water taxi transfer from the airport is significantly more exciting than the average Disney ride," he explained.
"Once in the floating city, families can enjoy the architecture of St.Marks square, have a delicious cup of coffee at Florians café and feed the pigeons."
Ted added that Cairo also attracts a lot of interest from children as it "Egypt is on every childs curriculum", with the citys Egyptian Museum guaranteed to be a big hit with visitors of all ages.
According to research carried out by insurance provider Insure and Go, last year saw families in the UK spend, on average, £837 on their summer holiday .
