Airlines flybe and Loganair have sealed a new airline deal to deliver more UK and European flight connections to passengers in Scotland .
The newly formed franchise between airlines flybe, which provides its services from four Scottish airports, and Loganair, which flies throughout the Highlands and Islands, will begin once Loganairs current deal with British Airways comes to an end next October.
Passengers will be able to purchase tickets for the new franchise through flybes website (flybe.com) from June this year.
Flybe said the landmark deal would result in thousands being able reap the benefits of the low cost model .
The companies announced the 40 per cent core fares discount, given to passengers from Orkney, Shetland, Jura, Islay, the Western Isles, North West Sutherland and Caithness, will not be affected by the new franchise .
Scott Grier, chairman of Loganair, said the new deal was a "significant step" for the company . "The air service networks of both airlines are complementary and this deal will give our customers a greater choice of UK and European connections," he added.
Flybe's chairman and chief executive, Jim French echoed his partners sentiments.
He commented: "This landmark agreement, the first time a low cost carrier has entered into such a franchise arrangement, is an exciting development in the evolution of the low cost model and one which flybe sees as a valid strategic option for the future.
French said the deal was a win-win for both airlines as flybes "presence in the key Scottish market" is likely to become stronger and also "benefit from increased passenger traffic" into its existing network.
He added that for Loganair, the coalition is "a major opportunity to bring the recognised brand of Europe's largest regional airline and the benefits of the low cost model to hundreds of thousands of passengers".
