An increasing number of British holidaymakers are failing to take out travel insurance for breaks within the UK, new research has revealed.
A new study by Sainsburys Finance found that around 50 million domestic holidays are taken each year, worth £10.9 billion.
The findings also revealed that 15 per cent of British adults have never ventured abroad on their trips .
The company suggested that those who neglect the importance of travel cover run the risk of having to pay for unforeseen incidents affecting their holidays themselves, such as being unable to go on holiday due to illness or having valuables stolen while away.
"British people often holiday in the UK, whether it be their main get-away or a short break or long weekend," commented Neil Laird of Sainsburys Finance .
"It can be easy to overlook travel insurance if you are not going on a foreign break but many of the problems that you can encounter abroad can also happen here in the UK on holiday, so it is important to ensure that you have adequate cover ."
