Passengers travelling through security queues at London Gatwick are made to wait the less than any other major airport in Europe, new research has revealed.
The latest quarterly survey by the Airports Council International, which polled passengers’ views on a range of service factors at Europe's ten busiest airports, revealed that waiting times at Gatwick’s security checkpoint are shorter than those at major hubs in Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, as well as rival London hub Heathrow .
Gatwick’s managing director, Andy Flower, said the achievement is due to the "dedication and commitment" of the airport’s staff.
"This time last year Gatwick came seventh out of ten for security queue times, so to be voted top today is a real achievement."
"Many thanks and congratulations to everyone for making this result possible, and for helping to keep passengers safe and secure," he added.
Around 35 million passengers travel through Gatwick each year. Capacity at the airport has recently been improved with the addition of seven new security lanes and 650 security staff.
