The groups findings revealed that out of all the eurozone countries, Spain offers the best value for both diesel fuel and hire car rates .
Petrol pumps in Spain were found to be charging motorists around 30 per cent less for diesel than forecourts in Belgium or the Netherlands, also renowned as popular motoring holiday countries.
The research revealed that Spain is by far the cheapest eurozone destination for people travelling in a diesel car, with a cost of 94p per litre placing it ahead of the £1.01 per-litre charged by its nearest rival, Austria .
The Iberian country is also the cheapest eurozone nation for unleaded petrol, with prices currently around £1 per litre.
Helen Warburton, head of travel for the Post Office, said there are a number of ways that holidaymakers can reduce their costs prior to departure, including the use of commission-free currency exchange services.
