Thousands of Brits planning holidays this Easter weekend will set off without valid travel insurance, a new study from Sainsburys Finance has warned.
Research has revealed that as many as ten per cent of holidaymakers are set to travel overseas for a Easter holiday, with over 4.2 million people admitting to travelling without suitable cover the last time they went abroad on holiday .
Neil Laird, travel insurance manager at Sainsbury's Finance, said: "Easter can be a great time to get away, but these are alarming figures because taking travel insurance on holiday is as important as packing your passport ."
"It doesn't matter if it's an Easter break, a weekend away or your main summer holiday, if something happens whilst you're abroad, you need to know that you have adequate cover in place to take care of things," he added.
The study also highlighted that people from London were most likely to risk travelling abroad without insurance, with one in four people residing in the capital saying they neglected taking out cover on their last trip overseas.
A spokesperson for Sainsburys Finance warned that holidaymakers travelling without insurance would have to cover the cost of lost money, baggage or documents - the most common claims made over Easter themselves.
