Egypts tourism officials have signalled their intention to boost the annual number of foreign arrivals to the nation.
The country, which is steeped in rich history, is currently proving a popular holiday hotspot for around 11 million travellers each year.
But tourism minister Zuheir Garana has revealed that the African nation is aiming to increase this figure to around 14 million international visitors by 2011.
According to reports by TravelVideo TV, the United Arab Emirates, which sends a considerable volume of holidaymakers to Egypt, will help the country achieve its three-year goal by investing $4 billion (£2 billion) into its local tourism market .
Last month, Francesca Ecsery of airline website Cheapflights.co.uk revealed that British holidaymakers are becoming more adventurous with their choice of summer holiday destination, leading to an increase in the number of travellers choosing locations such as Egypt over euro-zone destinations.
