New World Destinations Recommended For Wine Tourists

Wine-seeking travellers seeking have been advised to head to the New World for the perfect wine holiday .

According to wine experts Neil Phillips and Chris Scott, the United States, Australia and New Zealand offer some of the most impressive destinations for wine tourists to visit.

New Zealand in particular was recommended by the pair, with Mr Scott suggesting it is a great place in which to visit wineries .

"Not only is there great food and wine on offer, but it is all served up with a bit of chilled Kiwi style," he commented.

Mr Phillips agreed that New Zealand is indeed one of the "key" places to visit for wine buffs.

Commenting on the development of the wine industry, he said: "It's been phenomenal, particularly the development of Sauvignon blanc in the Marlborough region - it's a fantastic country in terms of food and travel ."

Marlborough is New Zealand’s largest winemaking region, with over 4,000 hectares of planted grapes .

According to the region’s tourism board, Marlborough also boasts around 65 wineries and 290 grape growers, with a primary focus on Sauvignon blanc but with sizeable plantings of Pinot noir, Chardonnay and Riesling, among others.
