Tourists Downgrading On Their Travels

Fri, 24 Oct 2008

UK holidaymakers are more than willing to give up luxuries on their travels in order to enjoy a good-value break, according to an industry expert.

James Fremantle, industry affairs manager at the Air Transport Users Council, said that the success of Irish budget airline Ryanair suggests that passengers are prepared to travel without extra comforts in order to take advantage of a low-price flight .

Commenting on the effects of the current economic climate, Mr Fremantle suggested that "most passengers make travel decisions based on price", whatever state the economic climate is in.

"At the moment, I think people are concerned about financial protection and if an airline goes bust will they get their money back," he added.

Meanwhile, recent findings from online travel portal TripAdvisor revealed that just over two-thirds (69 per cent) of Brits believe the unfavourable exchange rate will not prevent or limit their travel to Europe over the next 12 months.
