Over 1,000,000 people travelled through Birmingham International in August, making it busiest month in the airports history in August, new figures have revealed.
Official passenger figures showed that the Midlands hub handled a total of 1,079,970 passengers last month, comprised of 741,445 scheduled passengers and 338,525 travellers on chartered flights .
According to Joe Kelly, acting Managing Director of Birmingham International, the airport is on track to achieve its most successful year to date in terms of passenger numbers, with the record-breaking figures for August following on from the airport's busiest every July.
"The records continue to be broken here at the airport, following in the path of February, March, April, May and July, which were all record-breaking months," she said.
"For us to be able to celebrate our busiest ever month is a great achievement and something that we are all very proud of."
The airport is set to be further boosted by the addition of a number of new routes over the coming months, including the commencement of a new Turkish Airlines service to Istanbul in December.
