Ferry travel is set to become more popular among holidaymakers this year, an industry expert has revealed.
According to the Passenger Shipping Association (PSA), the option of ferry travel is becoming more appealing as budgeting Brits, affected by the credit crunch, look for cheaper ways to travel overseas .
"If you are taking your family then we think travelling by ferry is incredibly good value, especially if you are prepared to travel outside the more busy times," said PSA director William Gibbons.
He added that the holidaying habits are also starting to change, with travellers looking to save money by taking one break per year, preferably within the UK .
A recent survey carried out by the Port of Dover found that 70 per cent claimed sea travel is a cheaper alternative to air travel .
In terms of services, 90 per cent of those who passed through its gates noted an improvement in luggage handling and easier security checks, compared to airport services, while 80 per cent said seaports had a better check-in procedure.
