The city of London is the most popular European destination for British travellers, a new survey has revealed.
According to figures from online comparison service PriceRunner.co.uk, the capital of England is the number one choice for UK travellers despite being regarded as the second most expensive city in the world.
Other UK cities to feature in the survey included Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester and Birmingham .
"It's encouraging to see that we're taking the time to enjoy our own country and not being put off by European travel altogether," said Mattias Berg, managing director of Pricerunner.
He added that the recent boom in domestic travel was being driven by the current poor exchange rate with the euro .
The ancient city of Rome along with Spanish beach resorts Malaga and Alicante were also listed as some of the most popular European hotspots for UK tourists .
