Ryanair is reportedly set to expand its services by introducing a number of transatlantic routes from the UK .
According to reports by the Daily Telegraph, the low cost carrier is looking to set up a new company to operate the proposed flights which will travel to New York from hubs at Birmingham, Stansted and Prestwick.
The newspaper suggests that the airline is benefiting from the downturn in the industry, which has made it cheaper to lease aircraft.
Ryanair's deputy chief executive Howard Millar suggested that the aviation sector is in a "rapid period of change" and smaller carriers "will not survive" a recession in Europe .
Millar also indicated an intention to increase the pressure on struggling competitors by slashing prices on most routes this winter.
Ryanair criticised the European Emissions Trading Scheme, claiming it "punishes the most efficient airlines while protecting the most inefficient and polluting" such as AlItalia and Olympic Airway.
