Europe And US Brits Most Popular Easter Holiday Destinations

Mon, 27 Apr 2009

Europe and the USA remained British travellers’ most popular overseas destinations over the recent Easter holiday, according to International Currency Exchange (Ice).

The company revealed that despite the weak value of pound, both the euro and the US dollar were by far the most popular currencies ahead of the Easter break, accounting for more than 75 per cent of its sales.

Thailand was surprisingly Brits’ third most popular holiday location, with demand for the baht accounting for 7 per cent of orders received by Ice before the spring break .

Orders for the Australian dollar and the Mexican peso accounted for 4 per cent and 3 per cent of the company’s sales respectively, while other popular currencies for Brits included Czech koruna, the Malaysian ringgit and the Hong Kong dollar .

Andrew Hamilton, head of marketing for Ice, commented: "Families want holidays that are low on stress and high in convenience and that means short journeys by train, car, sea or plane into Europe or guaranteed sunshine and family friendly holidays in the US ."

"That said, Thailand is proving to be a popular destination after Europe and the US . This long-haul escape not only offers fantastic beaches and scenery but relatively low everyday costs."
