Holidays abroad are still better value for money than breaks in the UK, new research has revealed.
According to the latest Holiday Cost of Living survey by Thomas Cook, prices in many foreign resorts are still "significantly cheaper" than in the UK, despite the weakness of the pound in relation to the euro and other foreign currencies .
The travel giant compared average prices in 16 popular tourist destinations with those in Britain and found that Goa is the most affordable getaway, with the average daily expenditure totalling a mere £14.10 per person - including a three-course meal - compared to £48.51 in the UK.
The favourable exchange rates of North African destinations such as Tunisia, Egypt and Morocco make them great value destinations, while even some Eurozone countries including Spain and Cyprus remain cheaper than the UK, despite the strong value of the euro against the pound.
The study also found that flights to many overseas destinations are only a fraction more expensive than taking a longer train journey in the UK.
Thomas Cook spokesperson Pete Constanti said: "There are some fantastic value-for-money deals available on both holiday and foreign exchange ."
"If you are on a tight budget, consider an all-inclusive option. This will mean that you've paid for food, drinks and some activities in advance."
