Egypt Tourism Boosted By Package Holidays

Wed, 09 Dec 2009

Package holiday bookings to Egypt have helped boost the country’s tourism sector, it has been revealed.

Egypt's tourism minister Zoheir Garranah said the number of visitors to the country had remained strong during the global recession thanks to package holiday deals and improved marketing.

"One of the things we have been doing is offering packages with tour operators and also working on our marketing campaigns,' he explained.

'We are going to have to continue to work very strongly to maintain our market share."

Mr Garranah also revealed that more Brits were choosing Egypt as their holiday destination, with flights from the UK in 2008 up by 20 per cent on the previous year.

Inbound travel from the UK for 2009 is expected to be even higher due to the popularity of holidays in non-eurozone countries.

American Express Travel said it expects Egypt to remain a holiday 'hotspot' in 2010, with recent demand for the Egyptian pound rising significantly compared to the same period last year.
