Accommodation options for holidaymakers visiting the Maldives have been boosted by the opening of the island nations first Holiday Inn resort .
The new property officially opened for business yesterday (December 15) on Kandooma island on the South Male atoll, around 35km away from the countrys international airport in Male.
The hotel features 160 rooms, each equipped with state-of-the-art facilities including flat-screen televisions, wireless internet access and iPod docking stations.
Watersports enthusiasts can benefit from the resorts easy access to a number of "world-class" surf and dive sites such as the Kandooma channel and caves, as well as an undersea mountain known as Thila.
Brendan Corcoran, the hotels general manager, said: " Holiday Inn Resort Kandooma Maldives offers the perfect balance of relaxation and adventure."
