The Sunday Times has released a list of European city break alternatives for Valentine’s couples looking to enjoy some new experiences abroad this weekend.
First on the list is Helsinki, the capital of Finland . According to the newspaper, the city is 'full of surprises' and blends in aspects of St Petersburg and Rome .
Romantic couples in search of a 'decadent' break are advised to visit Brussels in Belgium, which boasts an "exquisite" central Grand Place, a gothic town hall and plenty of chocolate for tasting.
Those seeking a relaxing weekend away should head to Biarritz, France, the paper continued. Miramar Spa provides plenty of pampering, while visitors can enjoy a wide selection of seafood meals at the Chez Albert restaurant.
The south of Europe boasts a variety of cultural and historic cities such as Seville, which the Times described as one of Spain's 'perennially elegant' cities, while northern Africa boasts the 'exotic' Fez in Morocco .
Siena, Italy concluded the Times’ list of alternative city break destinations, offering couples a wide variety of architectural attractions such as the Torre del Mangia and the Piazza del Campo .
