Holiday destinations outside of the eurozone will rise in popularity among British tourists in 2009, according to a new report.
The 2009 Travel Trends Report by the Association of British Travel Agents (Abta) and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) suggest that more Brits are choosing to travel to countries that don't have the Euro due to the weak value of the pound.
Destinations such as Egypt and Turkey saw increases of more than 30 per cent in visitors from the UK last year and are expected to be among the most popular holiday counties with UK travellers over the next twelve months.
Other destinations predicted to experience a surge in visitor arrivals include Australia, Mexico, Dubai, St Lucia, Poland, Croatia and Cuba as Brits look to save on their breaks .
Commenting on the findings, Abta spokesperson Frances Tuke, said that travellers had become "more adventurous" over the last few years, especially as non-eurozone countries offered "very good value for money" options.
"But when travelling to these destinations, it is very important to check Foreign Office advice and ensure you see a health professional who will recommend what vaccinations you may need and what precautions you should take," he stressed.
The FCO added that Brits travelling to destinations outside the eurozone should familiarise themselves with the laws and customs of those countries and ensue they take out appropriate travel insurance .
