Brits Willing To Sacrifice Luxuries To Take Holidays

Wed, 17 Jun 2009

Almost nine in ten Britons are willing to give up luxuries in other areas of life in order to have enough money to book their annual summer holiday, according to new research.

A survey carried out by low-cost airline easyJet found that 88 per cent of respondents would sacrifice luxuries such as going out and buying takeaway coffee to guarantee their holiday plans, while just under three quarters (72 per cent) would cut back on nights out.

In addition, 63 per cent said they would reduce their expenditure on clothes and more than half (52 per cent) said they had started buying supermarket own brands in order to put more cash side for their travel plans.

The easyJet research also discovered that 40 per cent of Brits had already booked their holiday for the summer and some 68 per cent had no intention of giving up their upcoming break .

Commenting on the findings, Paul Simmons, UK general manager of easyJet, said: "People are definitely assessing their spending habits and looking at ways to make their pennies go further in 2009."

"The survey demonstrates that people are cutting back on everyday 'luxuries' to ensure they can still fund their annual summer holiday ."

The no-frills airline recently boosted its range of services available to UK travellers this year with the launch of new flights to Corfu, Athens, Dalaman and Bastia from Manchester Airport .
