Jamaica Tops Brits List Of Affordable Overseas Destinations

Jamaica is the most affordable international destination for British tourists based on currency rates, new research has revealed.

According to data on recent exchange rate fluctuations by International Currency Exchange (Ice), sterling has increased in value by almost 24 per cent against the Jamaican dollar since the start of the year.

Iceland's krona has lost 23 per cent of its value against the pound, making it the second most affordable destination, with Poland in third following a 19 per cent drop in the value of the zloty .

The Hungarian florint and the Chinese yuan complete the top five list of affordable overseas destinations for Brits, with the pound gaining 17 per cent and 12.7 per cent respectively against these currencies .

Andrew Hamilton, head of marketing at Ice, commented: "Jamaica offers the best of a lot of worlds for holidaymakers - sun, great beaches and fantastic value against the pound."

"But closer to home we're seeing some real holiday hotspots emerge offering fantastic value for money - notably Croatia, Turkey and Bulgaria ."

Recent data from Ice revealed the euro is currently the most popular currency for British travellers, followed by the US dollar and the Thai baht .
