London attractions experienced a surge in visitors in April this year, according to tourism agency Visit London .
The group revealed that some 3.6m people visited museums, galleries and other attractions in the capital during the month, an increase of almost 20 per cent on figures for April 2008.
Paid attractions in the city saw a 26 per cent rise in visitor numbers to 1.6m, which contributed to a total increase of 2 per cent in visitors to all attractions from February to April.
Visit London said that the figures for April were driven by warm spring weather, the Easter holiday period and an increase in European tourists taking advantage of the weak value of the pound.
Chief executive Sally Chatterjee said: "The increase of visitors to London’s attractions is a very positive sign and demonstrates that London is still drawing people to the capital despite the economic climate."
"London is the world's most visited international city and our diverse range of attractions remains one of the key draws of the city ."
London’s most popular tourist attractions include the British Museum, the London Eye, Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London, Madame Tussauds and the Tate Modern art gallery .
