A travel company specialising in Turkey holidays has ceased trading, leaving more than 1,000 customers holidaymakers stranded abroad, according to reports.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) estimates that 1,300 customers with ScotTravel Holidays are currently abroad.
It said it would be making arrangements for customers protected by the Air Travel Organisers Licence (ATOL) to complete their holidays and fly home.
Anyone due to fly out on a ScotTravel holiday has been advised not to go to their departure airport as all holidays have been cancelled.
ScotTravel Holidays, based in Bellshill, North Lanarkshire, sold the majority of its packages through travel agents, but also operated direct through its websites scottravelholidays.co.uk and guletcruiseonline.co.uk.
A statement from the company read: "We regret to inform you that as from 4 June 2009 ScotTravel Holidays has ceased trading.
"Any customers with enquiries should refer to the CAA website at Caa.co.uk. For any forward departures passengers should not make their way to the airport ."
Frances Tuke, from travel association ABTA, said: "We know that there are roughly 1,500 people in Turkey at the moment."
"The CAA are very busy organising, making sure that those customers can continue with their holiday out in Turkey and will try and make sure that they return at a similar time as they were due to come back anyway."
