Barcelona Voted Top Holiday Hotspot In Europe

Barcelona is the number one holiday destination in Europe, according to a new survey by market research company OnePoll.

The popular Spanish city was highlighted by European holidaymakers for its "beautiful parks, beaches and Catalonian architecture".

OnePoll said that Barcelona "fits the bill" for many travellers across the continent as it is easily accessible and boasts year-round good weather.

Other Spanish destinations that proved popular among the 10,000 travellers polled included Madrid, Benidorm, Malaga, Ibiza and Mallorca, as well as La Manga which was named as the leading hotspot for sports and golf enthusiasts.

The second most popular European destination was Paris, followed by the Italian cites of Rome and Venice, and the Lake District .

Chamonix in France was voted the most popular location for a winter sports break, Edinburgh was highlighted as a top sightseeing destination and Prague was named the leading short break destination for couples.
