Virgin Atlantic has launched a new application for the iPhone aimed at helping people who suffer from aerophobia, or fear of flying .
The application, which is also available to download on the iPod Touch, follows the success of the British carrier’s Flying Without Fear’ course, which reportedly has a success rate of 98 per cent.
Features of the new app include a video-based inflight explanation of a plane journey from take-off to landing, a frequently asked questions section, relaxation exercises, a frequently asked questions section and fear therapy techniques.
According to the airline, the techniques are designed to help people with fears of all kinds, from slight anxiety about flying to complete inability to board an aircraft.
Sir Richard Branson, president of Virgin Atlantic, described the first of its kind application as "Virgin Atlantic innovation at its best".
He said: "Our first iPhone app will bring the benefits of our successful Flying Without Fear course to millions of people around the world who are now using mobile technology to make their lives better."
"The app will put many travellers at ease and enable them to prepare for their first Virgin Atlantic flight ."
