Over two-thirds (70 per cent) of British holidaymakers are planning to book a late summer break overseas, according to new research.
An online survey by low cost airline Monarch found that 47 per cent of UK travellers have delayed taking a break because of the bad British weather, which has affected many domestic holiday plans .
Nearly a quarter (23 per cent) of those polled said they were intending to go away later this year to escape the gloomy weather at home, while almost a third (30 per cent) said the poor summer conditions had not influenced their late travel plans .
Liz Savage of Monarch said: "The results of the poll clearly indicate however that a huge number of holidaymakers who have holidayed in the UK this summer are now planning to travel overseas to take advantage of some fantastic late deals and guarantee themselves some sunshine."
She added that the carrier had already seen strong demand for its services this summer, with aircraft being filled to 90 per cent of capacity during August.
Monarch Airlines operates flights from the UK to a wide range of popular European holiday destinations, including Majorca, Malaga, Barcelona, and Faro .
